About This Service

A medically supported start to recovery

Withdrawal from alcohol or other substances can be dangerous, painful, and isolating. Our Medical Detox Unit is being designed to take that risk and uncertainty out of the equation. Patients are admitted to a clinical setting where licensed medical staff manage symptoms, monitor vitals, and intervene immediately if complications arise.

Detox is not, on its own, a cure. It is a medically necessary first step that stabilizes the body and creates a foundation for the work of recovery that follows. Because Natives United operates as an integrated hospital, patients leaving the detox unit don't fall off a cliff — they transition into the level of care that fits their needs, whether that's our behavioral health unit, an outpatient pathway, or a community-based program.

What patients can expect

  • Medical assessment. A thorough intake evaluation establishes a personalized withdrawal management plan based on substance use history, medical conditions, and individual risk factors.
  • Around-the-clock monitoring. Vitals, symptoms, and comfort are tracked continuously by clinical staff trained in addiction medicine.
  • Symptom-targeted medication. Evidence-based protocols are used to manage cravings, anxiety, sleep disruption, and physical discomfort.
  • Dignified, private environment. Care is delivered in a setting designed for rest, recovery, and confidentiality — not stigma.
  • A real next step. Discharge planning begins on admission. Every patient leaves with a clear, supported pathway forward.

Who this service is for

The Medical Detox Unit serves adults experiencing or at risk of significant withdrawal symptoms from alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, or other substances. It is also available to patients referred from our emergency department, family medicine clinic, or community partners who recognize the need for medically supervised stabilization.

Our approach

We believe recovery starts with respect. Patients are treated as people first, never reduced to a diagnosis. Our clinical model combines proven medical protocols with cultural humility — recognizing that Native patients, in particular, have often experienced healthcare systems that did not see them. We're building something different.
